COACH JEFF BETTIS

Coach Bettis begins his 9th year at KMHS. He is the Head Freshman Football Coach and teaches in the Social Studies Department at KMHS. Before landing at KMHS, Coach Bettis taught and coached at both Paulding County High School and Hiram High School.

Coach Bettis hold a B.S. of Secondary Education in Social Studies from Kennesaw State University and is currently attending Luther Rice University pursuing a Masters of Arts in Christian Studies.

 

COACH BRIAN RAGSDALE

Coach Ragsdale enters his 2nd season with the Mustangs coaching the freshman Offensive and Defensive Linemen. Coach Ragsdale also teaches in the Social Studies Department at KMHS. This is Coach Ragsdale’s 6th season coaching overall.

Coach Ragsdale has a Bachelors Degree in History from the University of Georgia as well as a Masters Degree in Secondary Education- Social Studies from the State University of West Georgia.

 

Coach Ragsdale has been married to his wife Claire for 7 years.

 

 

COACH STEVE KEULS

 

Coach Keuls enters his season 8th with the Mustangs, as the Head Athletic Trainer, and his 17th overall as an athletic trainer to programs throughout the county. Coach Keuls also teaches sports medicine in the P.E. Department. Before coming to KMHS Coach Keuls served as the head trainer for Pinnacle Orthopedics from 1991-2000 where he participated in an Outreach Program at Etowah, Sprayberry, North Cobb and Harrison High Schools.

 

Coach Keuls originally graduated from The Anneewakee School where he played quarterback on the football team then attended Dekalb Community College to receive his Associates Degree in Science. Coach Keuls then attended East Carolina University to receive his Bachelors degree before attending the University of Alabama to receive his Masters degree. Coach Keuls has since earned his Ed. Specialists Degree from Lincoln Memorial University.

 

COACH DAVID REASON

 

Coach Reason enters his 9th season with the Mustangs and his 14th season of coaching total. As a member of the original staff at the Mountain Coach Reason has served in many capacities including Varsity Receivers coach from 2000-2004, the Head JV coach from 2000-2005 and his current position as a coach on  the freshmen Mustangs staff. Coach Reason also serves as the KMHS Head Swim Coach and has worked with the Mustang Track team in years past. Coach Reason teaches in the Social Studies department at KMHS teaching Government and Economics classes. Before coming to KMHS Coach Reason made stops at Stone Mountain High School where he was involved with both the football and swim teams and Stephenson High School where he served as the JV Offensive Coordinator and Special Teams coach as well as the Assistant Head Track Coach winning state titles in1997 & 1998. Coach Reason then moved to Harrison High School where he coached both football and swimming.

 

Coach Reason is a graduate of Shamrock High School where he excelled in swimming, still holding 2 school records, football playing free safety and track where he was part of the 1988 State Championship Team as a member of the sprints, relay and jump teams. Following graduation Coach Reason attended West Georgia University to receive his Bachelors Degree.

 

Coach Reason and his wife Holly have 2 children Brett and Reagan.

 

COACH MARLON LONGACRE

 

Coach Longacre enters his 5th season with the Mustangs and his 10th season overall working as a team Chaplain.  Coach Longacre is currently the Community Pastor at North Star Church in Acworth and has been an active member of the community for many years. Coach Longacre has been named the Cobb County Mentor of the Year as well as the Acworth and Kennesaw Citizen of the Year. Coach Longacre also serves on the Board of Directors for both the Kennesaw Business Association and the Acworth Business Association.  He serves on the Board of Directors of the Special Needs Development Group that is raising funds to build the first ever special needs ball field in Cobb County.   Coach also serves as chairman of both the Big Shanty Festival in Kennesaw and the Love The Lake Concert Series in Acworth. He has been an active participant in the Character Education Program at KMHS as an instructor. Coach Longacre serves on the school councils for both Bullard School and KMHS.

 

Coach Longacre received his BA in communications from Morehead State University.

 

Coach Longacre and his wife Elizabeth have 3 sons; Todd, who is a member of the Mustang Football Team, Jacob, and Matthew.

 

COACH TY TAVALEZ

Tyrone “Ty” Tavalez enters his 5th year in affiliation with the Mustangs as a Community Coach assisting with Special Teams, Wide Receivers & Defensive Backs. Ty also serves as the Game Night Filming Coordinator and serves as an Assistant Wrestling Coach for the KMHS Wrestling team. Ty has also coached baseball in Acworth and Big Shanty.
    Coach Tavalez has a B.A. in Business Management from Kennesaw State and attended North Cobb High School where he was a four year letterman for the wrestling team. Ty has been married to his wife Rhonda for seven years and has two sons Devin and Zach, who is a current Mustang, as well as another on the way in October of 2008. Ty was the winner of the Abrams Award of Excellence, highest award given to a soldier in basic training. He also spent seven years in the US ARMY, in that time serving in the Gulf War.
